Love, love, love everywhere! It hurts me. :'( Yesterday, Friday the 13th, was when students brought giant teddy bears and huge bouquets of roses to their valentines, and then later that night they would go on a dance. Well, I didn't care. I walked down the halls like love was none of my business, I had friends who got no valentine, so I wasn't alone. But then last night Derek texted me asking if I wanted to have a valentines dance the next day. Then he added "It is for you". Well, you must realize that the phone he texted is not mine. For I do not have a phone. It was my mothers, meaning she was the first one that read the text message. The only thing that I wished he wouldn't have said was "It is for you", because now my mom thinks this party is a date. So she said no. She tried making excuses of why I couldn't go like "You're baby-sitting tomorrow", I tried getting back at her by saying I can have the party before then. "You're baby-sitting tomorrow" she would say again. So I knew that whatever I could do, I had to tell Derek that I'm "Baby-sitting tomorrow" and can't do the party. So I did so, for my mothers sake.
He returned it with a crying emoji, but I told him I would love to do other parties in the future. He returned that with a smiling emoji. From then on, I made sure to hold onto the phone until I was done with the conversation. I was glad of that because the next thing he said was: "I know I don't have a teddy bear or flowers for you, but will you be my valentine?" I'm glad I was the first one to read the text instead of the second one. I responded with an of course. Then he texted back sending virtual roses.
My dad and two brothers and overheard my mother talking about the party thing and after that, they were giving me a hard time. They said I shouldn't be hanging out with guys, that I shouldn't even look at them, for a single eye contact with a guy is a date. Seriously. My dad and brothers are way overprotective. My mom just laughed as they were giving me a hard time about it because one brother, did the same exact thing at my age too. He was lecturing me on something he did himself. The other brother knows nothing of girls, meaning he probably has no idea that this guy friend I have is just a friend not a boyfriend. My dad, in the other hand, just did it because he's my dad and he wants to shoot every boy who looks at me in the halls. Goodness!
Today, though, I had asked my mom if I'll ever be able to hang out with Derek, for my family was giving me a hard enough time last night I knew for sure I could never hang out with him. She said that she liked Derek and that she was a good boy, she wasn't the one giving me a hard time last night, so I can still continue on hanging out with him, just as long as I do what I've always done, have another friend there too. Phew! This morning Derek texted me saying happy valentines day, but he didn't say any further words, so having my mom see it first was okay.
Not only was my dad and brothers giving me a bad time about me and Derek, but it also gave another excuse why my dad shouldn't get me my own phone. Today, I had asked my mother if I was still getting a phone. She said of course, but if I would've asked my dad that, he probably would've said no. With opposition on whether I get a phone or not, I might not be getting one until I'm 23, the age when I actually get to date according to my dad.
Today, my mother made cookies for our valentine. She had formed a heart on top of them with chocolate chips and had little cards taped to the plates. I thought it was so cute. Today, my mom and dad are going to a Hawaiian Luau for their valentines date. The brother that was going through the same thing as I was at this age, is at work, for his girl is on her mission and is not available at the moment. My other brother, though, the one who seems to not understand girls, actually has a girl he's been together with for a few months. He's making a special dinner for her with Chicken Cordon- Bleu, chocolate covered strawberries, stuffed mushrooms, and a special salad with sliced strawberries and candied almonds. He's never going to understand girls, but he is starting to get together with one. That's a start. As for me, I won't be going to that party, instead, I'll be baby sitting tonight. How "Fun"!
